Really excited to bring to you this panel and the topic for today is driving change through technology or adoption or embracing that change we have a great panel here with a lot
of have a great panel here with a lot of experience starting with Curtis Carlson the owner of Rocket powder Co for working years yep we have Cody from Bearer plating 11 years as a CL from Bearer plating 11 years as
a CL manager and then we have Frank from Ingam powder coating and Dena from Precision spray a lot of experience a lot of different roles a lot of years and very excited hear their perspective on this topic why is it important to stay on top of technological changes in the metal finishing space listen to everybody talked yesterday and today you know Andrew said it yesterday and some today that you know he kicked customers out that were using backx machines or old school if we know we're not old school if we know we're not old school if we know we're not
adjusting to you know the new Steelhead technology were those old people that are using the fax machines handwriting everything were the ones that are the pain C customers that you know
let's pain C customers that you know let's pain C customers that you know let's let's kick these guys out let's use let's kick these guys out let's use let's kick these guys out let's use somebody new they're not up to date and somebody new they're not up to date and somebody new they're not up to date and you know also it we're losing money you know also it we're losing money you know also it we're losing money you don't know where you're spending money don't know where you're spending
money don't know where you're spending money you don't know where the money is coming you don't know where the money is coming you don't know where the money is coming from you're you know you could be losing from you're you know you could be losing from you're you know you could be losing $600 on one specific job you know $600 on one specific job you know $600 on one specific job you know these new technologies techniques these new
technologies techniques you know they just put everything in your face and it's it's readily your face and it's it's readily your face and it's it's readily available for you so from our ownership St standpoint you know your business is a hugely valuable asset someday you're going to want to sell it or hand you're going to want to sell it or hand you're going to want to sell it or hand it down hopefully get a lot of money for it I know I hope I do so if anyone's for it I know I hope I do so if anyone's for it I know I hope I do so if anyone's looking that's a lot of looking that's a lot of looking that's a lot of money
and I think one of the biggest money and I think one of the biggest things that business Brokers you know PE firms are going to be looking at is technology in a business and specifically Financial visibility you know if you can prove that you're making know if you can prove that you're making know if you can prove that you're making money prove that you're going to make money prove that you're going to make money prove that you're going to make money in the future that decreases the risk talking EA multiples these are
multiples so twice as much for business you know you double your multiples so you're lowering the risk by adapting you're lowering the risk by adapting you're lowering the risk by adapting technology if you don't have to have technology if you don't have to have technology if you don't have to have you know show them to a file cabinet I think a really good point that was made with audits is how quickly you can get through these scary audits I mean nobody likes an audit but if you can have an auditor that turns around and says that was the easiest audit I've ever had that was the easiest audit I've ever had that was the easiest audit I've ever had I think that's a that's a very positive I think that's a that's a very positive I think that's a that's a very positive way to look at technology as well way to look at
technology as well awesome so a couple different viewpoints there de I was going to say from a customer success or customer support role what is it mean to you I just wanted to mention like the quality of life improvements from adopting some of this technology so steelhead has freed up M many of our office Personnel from just me especially tracking where a part is versus getting to do a metric on margins or where we're losing Time stuff margins or where we're losing Time stuff margins or where we're losing Time stuff like that so when you have stop having to spend your whole workday putting out to spend your
whole workday putting out fires and following parts around the shop floor you get to spend all that time doing something that's way more time doing something that's way more time doing something that's way more beneficial for the company as a whole I really just want
to agree with really just want to agree with what he said with all the advances that everybody's making across the that everybody's making across the that everybody's making across the line from fabricating to you know searching for that next level that next guy that's going to get it in that next guy that's going to get it in that next guy that's going to get it in and out of his shop like Andrew saying somebody asked in the one meeting he's 8 hours 8 Hour turnaround meeting he's 8 hours 8 Hour turnaround meeting he's 8 hours 8 Hour
turnaround he was like I'm at three days you know he was like I'm at three days you know he was like I'm at three days you know so being able to get that out in 8 hours everybody's looking to get hours everybody's looking to get hours everybody's looking to get something quicker faster cheaper and if you don't stay up on your
technology you don't stay up on your technology you don't stay up on your technology that quicker faster isn't going to that quicker faster isn't going to that quicker faster isn't going to happen so I think by sticking with steelhead going with the times and doing what we need to do to expedite doing what we
need to do to expedite product out of shop I think that's part product out of shop I think that's part product out of shop I think that's part of I'm staying up on technology that's of I'm staying up on technology that's of I'm staying up on technology that's great and one of the things that recurring keeps coming up is like change or CH change is
challenging so what does or CH change is challenging so what does that mean I was trying to teach my grandma how to Siri on her phone and an hour into this discovery she's like hour into this discovery she's like hour into this discovery she's like asking me where is this sir how do you guys get your teams to agree and buy in and commit to this culture of change to embrace it and to use it to grow part of it is just persistence so I it took of it is
just persistence so I it took me 3 years to convince my boss that we needed to make this change literally 3 years of asking on a monthly basis and when I finally got him on board the management
team we had to work on them management team we had to work on them and so for them making it visible how much time we could save on each function like adding x amount more product running through the shop but we don't running through
the shop but we don't running through the shop but we don't need a whole another office Personnel to keep track of it because it's automated keep track of it because it's automated keep track of it because it's automated it's already happening and on the shop it's already happening and on the shop it's already happening and on the shop floor level it's the easy make it easy floor level it's the easy make it easy
floor level it's the easy make it easy you have to make it easier or they're you have to make it easier or they're you have to make it easier or they're not going to do it becomes too hard tray they're going to ignore your tray they're going to ignore your tray they're going to ignore your instructions it's impossible and one of instructions it's impossible and one of instructions it's impossible and one of the
things that helped a lot which the things that helped a lot which somebody told me that I needed to talk about this I found this program called scribe how for implementing and it's an scribe how for implementing and it's an scribe how for implementing and it's an AI where you every time you click in your screen it takes a screenshot so you can write your new work order processes without having to take 3,000 years so without having to take 3,000 years so without having to take 3,000 years so that was way useful for instructing that
was way useful for instructing people giving them a reference that has images of what they need to do where they need to go and it's cheap it's like they need to go and it's cheap it's like they need to go and it's cheap it's like a subscription you need it for a month a subscription you need it for a
month maybe we haven't done too much yet I maybe we haven't done too much yet I maybe we haven't done too much yet I mean obviously we're only about 10 mean obviously we're only about 10 mean obviously we're only about 10 months in so not too long but you know my younger guys you know adapted on to it right away just because it's to it
right away just because it's to it right away just because it's technology it's new exciting it's no technology it's new exciting it's no technology it's new exciting it's no longer just writing down pen and paper as for the older guys just have daily meetings with them and you know do a meetings with them
and you know do a presenting TV screen and just you know thoroughly go over everything have meetings try not to show the frustrations with them you know cuz most of these guys don't even know how to use of these
guys don't even know how to use of these guys don't even know how to use their cell phone and so those are the challenging ones the older generation still working on that's generation still working on that's generation still working on that's great Kurt anything to add on that regard or no I don't have any good regard or no I don't have any good regard or no I don't have any good suggestions it's tough to lead change suggestions it's tough to lead change suggestions it's tough to lead change someone else said this too but steel head surprisingly rolled out very quickly and
easily for us when it quickly and easily for us when it came to adoption I think it's the iPad came to adoption I think it's the iPad came to adoption I think it's the iPad looks like a phone everyone has a phone so compared to other things I've done it so compared to other things I've done it so compared to other things I've done it wasn't as bad but yeah change is wasn't as bad but
yeah change is wasn't as bad but yeah change is tough for you personally how has your role changed with the implementation of Technology Steelhead or otherwise my belief is an owner should be involved in belief is an owner should
be involved in business the least amount possible maybe I'm just lazy but I also think it I'm just lazy but I also think it I'm just lazy but I also think it comes down to the value of your business the number one factor that influence the value of your
business is the ownership value of your business is the ownership involvement makes sense if you sell your business you're not going to be there business you're not going to be there business you're not going to be there anymore so we transitioned our everything online cloud-based quite a everything online
cloud-based quite a everything online cloud-based quite a while ago and so that just allows me to you know work from home more we have multiple facil facilities so you know you go to one facility now you also have you go to one
facility now you also have the ability to you know see what's the ability to you know see what's the ability to you know see what's happening at the other facility I think that's a great technology is also from that's a great technology is also from that's a great technology is also from cyber security I mean we're all cyber security I mean we're all cyber security I mean we're all concerned about these big servers
that concerned about these big servers that are expensive and they can break and they can be hacked maybe I'm naive but I they can be hacked maybe I'm naive but I they can be hacked maybe I'm naive but I think I feel like Cloud's a little more think I feel like Cloud's a little more think I feel like Cloud's a little more secure so from ownership I feel like technology has really enabled me to have more information also a decrease in overhead thing that actually sold me for on Steelhead at the end me for on Steelhead
at the end of the day was how easy it was to invoice I mean that might sound like a really small part of all this but invoicing my company was a full-time job invoicing my company was a full-time job invoicing my company was a full-time job we had a program you know an Erp system but it took hours every day to you know save a PDF to this and attach it to an email and write the email out and steel hit is one click of one and
steel hit is one click of one button and your invoice is done I do it myself know that's how easy it is and myself know that's how easy it is and myself know that's how easy it is and I'm you know just it's so easy to I'm you know just it's so easy to I'm you know just it's so easy to cut some of that overhead and a redeploy and you're
talking about that redeploy and you're talking about that redeploy and you're talking about that too so you can work on more meaningful things than just pushing paper around what other processes or systems have changed with the implementation of technology for us the biggest change that steel had brought us was our mrb or the QC functionality so we used to have a physical location it was the material a physical
location it was the material review board and we would all go out at 9:15 every morning and talk about all 9:15 every morning and talk about all 9:15 every morning and talk about all the things that were wrong with all the parts that were sitting there and it took a
it was such a timec consuming took a it was such a timec consuming difficult process and we had no tracking of how many times a part had been there so if something was being reworked multiple times we had no idea until you did a deep dive it was super timec consuming with Steelhead it's all consuming with Steelhead it's all consuming with Steelhead it's all linked together I can do it from my office if they take pictures if I need office if they take pictures if I
need more information I can immediately send that out to somebody on the shop floor to get me that information and we have a really big facility there's hundreds and really big facility there's hundreds and really big facility there's hundreds and hundreds of
Parts going all way hundreds of Parts going all way directions so being able to see how many times something is being reworked and having that record is huge so it sound like a from a admin side we were able to reduce and din know you're saying we to reduce and din know you're saying we to reduce and din know you're saying we had a daily meeting that well from technology we were able to eliminate that's great anything outside of steel that's great anything outside of steel that's great anything
outside of steel head technological advances or upgrades that you've made or anyone else here that you've made or anyone else here that you've made or anyone else here nothing [Music] [Music] [Music] successful what have you tried we briefly had a maintenance CMM we briefly had a
maintenance CMM software it was called hippo that we tried to do for like maintenance work orders and preventative maintenance and the work orders part worked for a while but just making
people use it was so but just making people use it was so hard because it was on top of our Erp system on top of everything else the guys were doing every day so it was just to go and log into like three different things to get one thing done it was too much with Steelhead I think the maintenance is going to work better because it's is going to work better because it's is going to work better because it's just in one place awesome so that's nice just in one place awesome so
that's nice just in one place awesome so that's nice Cody and Frank from perspectives of GMS and plant managers and two different coding types or Industries how have your roles changed with the implementation of technology I can tell you from my standpoint freed up a lot of time my scheduling we'll start with that scheduling we'll start with that scheduling we'll start with that scheduling first of all was consisted of two dry
race boards that were of two dry race boards that were like 8T x 5 foot with a monthly calendar one was in my office and the other was out in the shop so every day I would sit there and change the schedule if we had to jump a customer we were racing or and we're writing and then I'd have to and we're writing and then I'd have to and we're writing and then I'd have to take a picture of that with my cell phone then I'd run out to the shop and phone then I'd run out to the
shop and phone then I'd run out to the shop and then I'd look at my cell phone and add then I'd look at my cell phone and add then I'd look at my cell phone and add that to that date then run back to my email and find out that I had somebody else bringing a job in and Cody was else bringing a job in and Cody
was doing the same thing you know we each had a board so now you know with the implementation of Steelhead we now have iPads now we have chat which is I've iPads now we have chat which is I've iPads now we have chat which is I've been playing with from here
today with been playing with from here today with the implementation of Steelhead it definitely freed up a lot of opportunity for me to be out on the floor training instead of running back and forth and scheduling is a lot easier I get assistance from the office with that now as well it freed up a lot of time to do things that I a lot of time to do things
that I need to do inventories making sure we had something for everybody to do at any given point in time you know I know the owner is very active in Kyle he's the owner is very active in Kyle he's the owner is very active in Kyle he's very active in the business I call
him very active in the business I call him the king of perfect bad timing because the minute somebody took a 10 seconds to go do something that need him to do that's when he was like what's him to do that's when he was like
what's him to do that's when he was like what's he doing and I'm like well I need him to he doing and I'm like well I need him to he doing and I'm like well I need him to do so well now I don't need him to do so well now I don't need him to do so well now I don't need him to do that I can see it all so it's it's that I can see it all so it's it's that I can see it all so it's it's it's just freed up a lot of free time it's just freed up a lot of free time it's just freed up a lot of free
time free time to do things that we need to do to make the business go for me shortterm a lot more work and only for good reasons because you know we're for good reasons because you know we're for good reasons because you know we're a small shop and so there's limited a small shop
and so there's limited a small shop and so there's limited people that can you know enter in from the startup of you know all the data that has to go in understanding specifications understanding how these
parts process and so as a small shop that's one of the things I had to take that's one of the things I had to take that's one of the things I had to take control of and obviously that is from scratch timec consuming but you know as orders repeatedly come through it's
orders repeatedly come through it's orders repeatedly come through it's getting faster and so you know setting that up for the next guy to make you know an incoming role you know it's going to be 10 times easier but it's going to be 10 times easier but
it's going to be 10 times easier but throughout other aspects of steel head it's it's speeding things up head it's it's speeding things up head it's it's speeding things up chemical inventory you know the jobs that are like I said are priced and already in the system we
previously when already in the system we previously when I first started it was all handwritten so you receive an order in you look at the paper you handr write it on a little printed shop traveler and you take a piece of tape and tape that ticket to the job versus now it's you type in the job versus now it's you type in the job versus now it's you type in that customer and part number everything pulls up and you print it off and it's pulls up and you print it off and it's
pulls up and you print it off and it's in the system it's done you know so in the system it's done you know so in the system it's done you know so it went from you know possibly 5 minutes per order coming in to possibly 20 to 30 seconds at best so you know long to 30 seconds at best so you know
long term I not too long obviously but you know long term it's definitely you know long term it's definitely you know long term it's definitely you know saving tons and tons of time and Cody we talked a little bit about what you wanted to achieve in the next
3 you wanted to achieve in the next 3 months and I know that's changed since months and I know that's changed since months and I know that's changed since you're a couple days here at R Riptide you're a couple days here at R Riptide you're a couple days here at R Riptide but what do you see diving deeper into in the coming months here using technology or using Steelhead definitely just you know keep improving you know Steelhead's coming out with you know Steelhead's coming out with you know Steelhead's coming out with new things seems like daily almost weekly you know that's from
weekly you know that's from weekly you know that's from everybody's request they listen to everybody's request they listen to everybody's request they listen to changing for the better every time there's a new update it makes things there's a new update it makes things there's a new update it makes things quicker it makes things faster and you know
hopefully you know in the next 6 know hopefully you know in the next 6 months that you know everything in steelhead for me is you know fully implemented fully at use for our conversation you know we're there's a conversation you know we're there's a
conversation you know we're there's a lot of areas that we've noticed that I'm lot of areas that we've noticed that I'm lot of areas that we've noticed that I'm lacking in and so those you know conferences like this it's great you conferences like this it's great you conferences like this it's great you get to see what other people do you
get to hear you know in these little breakout sessions you know oh I've been breakout sessions you know oh I've been breakout sessions you know oh I've been doing that wrong all along oh that's how doing that wrong all along oh that's how doing that wrong all along oh that's how you use that function this conference is very useful tool Kurt in
the very useful tool Kurt in the couple years that you've been on steel couple years that you've been on steel couple years that you've been on steel head have there been specific areas that you go deeper into from a business process flow or production standpoint not until this conference that I realized some of the other functions of Steel hit I think someone said May was Dean nobody uses every single tile but Dean nobody uses every single tile
but it's really cool to hear about some of it's really cool to hear about some of it's really cool to hear about some of the tiles that I haven't used before the tiles that I haven't used before the tiles that I haven't used before maintenance was one I was just like Blown Away by that module that's I don't Blown Away by that module that's I don't Blown Away by that module that's I don't know last 6 months that's all come on
know last 6 months that's all come on know last 6 months that's all come on board so I don't even know when new board so I don't even know when new board so I don't even know when new modules come on sometimes I mean read my weekly flyer biweekly fly flyer so thank you try to get through that every couple weeks there's a lot that every couple weeks there's a lot that every couple weeks there's a lot that comes on I thought of another thing that really I thought brought my business up in the light or the eyes of my
customer was the eyes of my customer was the electronic signatures for deliveries my customers just thought that was the coolest thing ever not to have to sign paper and carry this paper in your in paper
and carry this paper in your trucks I have three trucks and have you know paper gets lost on the way home and then accountings like where the heck is the say sign pack list and you heck is the say sign pack list
and you got to file that away I mean if any of you guys run trucks or do deliveries you can just imagine how much time that saves and how many headaches of paper that just
having electon signatures on that just having electon signatures on tablets plus you know you look like you're professional you know you look you're professional you know you look you're professional you know you look like the UPS guy when you start dropping off things and getting signatures electronically so that was a big one that I thought was really beneficial but yeah I can't say I really have yeah I can't say I really have yeah I can't say I really have specifically dug into anything too deep specifically dug into
anything too deep until my eyes were opened here in this Forum so that's great as a big this Forum so that's great as a big this Forum so that's great as a big reason for this conference and glad you're able to glean some of that you're able to glean some of that you're able to glean some of that from the team
here so from the team here so great segue to question for Dina how have your customers reacted to changes that you've made on the technology front that you've made on the technology front that you've made on the technology front I actually have a great story for this so a couple of weeks ago we had a customer audit come through from schlum so I don't know if anyone works with so I don't know if anyone works with so I don't know if anyone works with schlum but they're very picky and they schlum but they're very picky and they schlum but they're very picky and
they came through with their engineering and their quality team and their production team like room full of people and my quality manager called me in sort of halfway through the audit was
like can halfway through the audit was like can you show them how these forms talk to these other forms linked to these quality problems linked to those purchase orders through steelhead so I purchase orders
through steelhead so I just sort of like ran through all the ways that documents linked together and their lead engineer just sort of put his face into his hands and screamed because face into his hands and screamed
because they just went through an sap adoption and they spent billions of dollars trying to achieve something that we did in like a couple of weeks with you guys and then they went to our JV and
their only finding at rjv was okay and their only finding at rjv was okay within the year you need to implement Steelhead where we're taking all of our Steelhead where we're taking all of our Steelhead where we're taking all of our work back in that way customers love it especially for audits it's been
great especially for audits it's been great especially for audits it's been great I'm going to go probably like a I'm going to go probably like a I'm going to go probably like a 60 40 split there so somebody said earlier about Millennials and how Millennials are just boom Millennials
are just boom in regards to you know packing slips and whatnot and signing on the phones and you have some people that are just they're waiting for your phone just they're waiting for your phone just they're waiting for your phone they're waiting to
put their signature they're waiting to put their signature they're waiting to put their signature on there and I tell him all right yep Brit just got that the email's already Brit just got that the email's already Brit just got that the email's already sent he's like oh this is great then you sent he's like oh this is great then you sent he's like oh this is great then you got other people I've had a guy sit in got other
people I've had a guy sit in got other people I've had a guy sit in the parking lot for 15 minutes after he signed my phone waiting for a piece of paper and Kyle goes out he goes what's paper and Kyle goes out he goes what's paper and Kyle goes out he goes what's what's going on and he comes back he what's going on and he comes back he
what's going on and he comes back he goes this guy's waiting on his packing s goes this guy's waiting on his packing s goes this guy's waiting on his packing s like he signed it 15 minutes ago so then we have to go back in the office and I go to BR or Barb and I'm like can you go to BR or Barb and I'm like can you go to BR or Barb and I'm
like can you guys print out this packing Stu it's training the customer as well Stu it's training the customer as well Stu it's training the customer as well that guy hasn't waited 15 minutes again that guy hasn't waited 15 minutes again that guy hasn't waited 15 minutes again but you know it's it's it's training the but you know it's it's it's training the but you know it's it's it's training the customers the younger customers I think really enjoy it and streamline it whereas the older ones just it's just like I said just training just it's just like I said just training just it's just like I said just training so just like us that's great kind of so just like us that's great kind of so just like us that's
great kind of a fun question here anything unexpected from adopting Steelhead or adopting other technology well we did our inventory on powder for the first time and was blown away at the amount of powder that we had on the shelf that was a mind Bender we knew we had a lot there but after you could actually look at on paper the price per pound what customer it was for I think was really eye opening at least for me it was yeah those are a lot of fun little personal experience with a powder inventory Calvin Jeff and I we
were inventory Calvin Jeff and I we were down at Sherry A1 paint powder in Kansas City doing a inventory audit as part of our 36-hour deployment it's a very our 36-hour deployment it's a very our 36-hour deployment it's a very tall task and hard to do I think I'm tall task and hard to do I think I'm
tall task and hard to do I think I'm still have black powder in my system from going through that powder room so anything unexpected from the other three here in terms of surprises
things you weren't expecting from things you weren't expecting from things you weren't expecting from technology good or bad yeah the only thing I can really think of I was really surprised that we haven't lost or really surprised that we haven't lost or really surprised that we haven't lost or broken an iPad yet I know you guys had said that's the biggest question you get said that's the biggest question you get said that's the biggest question you get is what if someone walks away with your iPad or the scanner goes swimming in the tank or yeah so we've had you know we tank or yeah so we've had you know
we tank or yeah so we've had you know we have 10 iPads and they're all still have 10 iPads and they're all still have 10 iPads and they're all still there and two shipping iPads so I guess that was unexpected success I got a good AI story I had a bad Google review and some someone bad Google review and some
someone gave me one star not my fault but used AI to compose a professional response just you know said hey you know ch respond to this and then you cut and paste the Google review and it was so nice not to have to try to be nice to so nice not to have to try to be nice to so nice not to have to try to be nice to this person so wanted to throw that in there for AI plugs turns an angry owner into a nice professional
response yeah I spent all weekend composing angry replies but Monday morning was not did not do that yeah I think that covers what I think about for technology I do like the flexibility of the you know the web based functionality of Steelhead we switch out computers all the time you know my it department is pretty fanatical or Outsource it but like 3
years your computer's gone you know years your computer's gone you know years your computer's gone you know you'll keep up with the newest you'll keep up with the newest you'll keep up with the newest computers and trying to put all you know some of these old software packages for Erp software you know you're for Erp
software you know you're for Erp software you know you're downloading stuff for days it seems like to try to upgrade your computers and so having everything in the cloud you just plug in a new one and rock you just plug
in a new one and rock and roll so felt like that was good we got to do more with cell phone you know getting on the Steelhead when you're in getting on the Steelhead when you're in getting on the Steelhead when you're in front of a customer and being able to
tell where their customer product is I was kind of enlightened on the different dashboards the insight and the Watchtower so I think those things can really help us when we're responding can
really help us when we're responding can really help us when we're responding to the inevitable customer calling asking for their parts we do have one customer that uses the customer portal successfully has decreased calls from them they were a customer that would have eight people all call about the same part all day long and you maybe you had something like that but since they now have a customer portal they can all a check on that part but I don't have to hear about that part but I don't have to hear about that part but I don't have to hear about it so one success I think we're all a it so one success I think we're all a it so one success I think we're all a little nervous about how much visibility little nervous about how
much visibility want to give to our customers but I think we'll continue to roll that out a think we'll continue to roll that out a think we'll continue to roll that out a little bit more for those people that always want to know my part done yet my part
you know yet my part done yet my part you know it's been a half an hour and it's not it's been a half an hour and it's not it's been a half an hour and it's not done yet that's great Kurt and for the rest yet that's great Kurt and for the rest yet that's great Kurt and for the rest of you here you're at varying points in of you here you're at varying points in of you here you're at varying points in your Steelhead Journey how do you plan to measure the success of the steel head the implementation or other technological advances that you've been technological advances that you've been technological advances that you've been putting in your shops so we haven't seen putting in your shops so we haven't seen putting
in your shops so we haven't seen like Revenue returns quite yet but we are rolling out a huge price increase directly because of the margin information we're now getting out of information we're now getting out of information we're now getting out of steelhead but mostly my
measure for steelhead but mostly my measure for success is every time I get to walk into a meeting and show someone data that's a meeting and show someone data that's a meeting and show someone data that's like before I said I feel that this is the wrong move and now I have really good data that shows you exactly how bad of a move it is and you cannot argue with reality so that's been super with reality so that's been super with reality so that's been super helpful for me specifically but I think helpful for me specifically but I
think my co-workers hate it just a little bit my co-workers hate it just a little bit my co-workers hate it just a little bit oh yeah I'm going to agree with that oh yeah I'm going to agree with that oh yeah I'm going to agree with that looking at your margins that's key looking at your margins that's key looking at your margins that's key going back to the last one I was just thinking about it because I listen to it every day I go to print something that I'm killing a tree we saved a lot that I'm killing a tree we saved a lot that I'm killing a tree we saved a lot of trees by moving over of trees a lot of trees by moving over to Steelhead but yeah looking at your to
Steelhead but yeah looking at your margins and making sure that it's margins and making sure that it's margins and making sure that it's it's the right fit for the company it's the right fit for the company it's the right fit for the company making sure that you're green and not making sure that you're green and not making sure that you're green and not red is key so you know and then just pushing the adaptation of Steelhead on everyone in the shop I mean that's that's an everyday task mean that's that's an everyday task mean that's that's an everyday task across both of our shops you know we have a lot of new guys that are coming have a lot of new guys
that are coming in and trying to train them you know they don't know powder coating they don't know powder coating they don't know powder coating they walking off the street they don't they walking off the street they don't they walking off the street they don't know how to blast they don't know how to blast they don't know how to blast they don't know how to coat they
don't know how to drop apart coat they don't know how to drop apart coat they don't know how to drop apart if it's they're doing it the right way if it's they're doing it the right way if it's they're doing it the right way so then you're you're throwing all this so then you're you're throwing all this so then you're you're throwing all this training at them and then at the same time you're like okay now here's time
you're like okay now here's time you're like okay now here's Steelhead and then you got to do this and so I mean as long as you start early with that I think you know the training of everybody gets the job done training of everybody gets
the job done so for the new people coming in absolutely are you seeing it easier harder than training the Legacy employees on older systems I think as the newer guys come in they see the older or senior Associates doing it so they kind of like hey what are you what they kind of like hey what are you doing over there whereas before we've been with steelhead now almost we've been with steelhead now almost we've been with steelhead now
almost two years whereas before everybody was kind of like oh he's doing it was kind of like oh he's doing it was kind of like oh he's doing it let him do it like I don't I don't need let him do it like I don't I don't need let him do it like I don't I don't need to touch that so you just kind of push everybody I you we have three
sprayers everybody I you we have three sprayers one day I got one sprayer doing everything in Steelhead I'm like stop everything in Steelhead I'm like stop everything in Steelhead I'm like stop doing that but I can't do it you have let him that but I can't do it you have let him that but I can't do it you have let him do it or let her do it so making sure that everybody's is stepping and that everybody's is stepping and that everybody's is stepping and doing their jobs on steelhead is key yeah I would agree with them I'm yeah I would agree with them I'm yeah I would agree with them I'm not fully set up to you know I think the not fully set up to you
know I think the level you two are at but I'm level you two are at but I'm level you two are at but I'm definitely excited and eager for you know the next few months that we talked about you know to see all that data input to show yeah exactly I'm I'm 100% input to show
yeah exactly I'm I'm 100% input to show yeah exactly I'm I'm 100% confident this job is making money it's confident this job is making money it's confident this job is making money it's going to work and this is you know definitely the right route we're going definitely the right route we're going definitely the right route we're going to go without a question so any to go without a question so
any questions how do you stop an employee or team member from I don't know just like team member from I don't know just like team member from I don't know just like deliberately abusing the system and typing in false information it seems like a lot of people when they
first like a lot of people when they first approach technology there's an initial approach technology there's an initial approach technology there's an initial fear and basically asking the question how do I stop my employees from going in and committing you know sabotage or fraud or just doing everything wrong like how do we lock him down in a padded room so it stops him from doing that and I know still had has some
flexibility to it so I just want to ask as we've been rolling this out to ask as we've been rolling this out to ask as we've been rolling this out to your operators do you guys feel that they generally engage it with good intent or is it something where they need to really be in that padded room and how much of that is real and how much of that is kind of unfounded fear I've never had anybody like deliberately I've never had anybody like deliberately I've never
had anybody like deliberately on Steelhead you know false information or you know just push things through just to get it done with the closest thing I've had is to tablet with thing I've had is to tablet with thing I've had is to tablet with internet access you know it's
internet access you know it's internet access you know it's football season you know I've caught football season you know I've caught football season you know I've caught people not using the tablet for work you know that's that's the closest you know that's that's the closest you know that's that's the closest thing I've had i' as far as I'm aware thing I've had i' as far as I'm aware thing I've had i' as far
as I'm aware there's nothing never been anybody just there's nothing never been anybody just there's nothing never been anybody just deliberately not doing their job and not put in correct information just as a side note in a tablet you can go into the paranal
controls andn off there we the paranal controls andn off there we got to that real quick did you have concerns of that happening prior to the implementation was it a surprise that it didn't happen was it a surprise that it didn't happen was it a surprise that it didn't
happen it was a thought you know cuz I deleted every app that you know comes on a tablet and you know there was no in the Play Store or whatever it was they couldn't log into their
own name and couldn't log into their own name and couldn't log into their own name and download things without me seeing it but there's always that incognito tab or there's always that incognito tab or there's always that incognito tab or delete your history browser history but you know we went you know quite some time before we had any issues so heard a lot of people mentioning iPads iPhones does it only work with iOS or it works with Android 2 okay any perfect for five bucks a month on Verizon you can have a cellular iPad just as your shipping guy can always you know transmit his sign pack list back into the cloud that'd be list back into the cloud that'd be list back into
the cloud that'd be one caveat to make sure you like our so our on floor iPads or Androids are cheaper model that just as Wi-Fi and cheaper model that just as Wi-Fi and cheaper model that just as Wi-Fi and then you got the cellular enabled iPads for the shipping guys
are your iPads for the shipping guys are your shipping guys truckers yeah truck drivers truck yep we have two semis in a box truck we haven't gotten deep in a box truck we haven't gotten deep in a box truck we haven't gotten deep into the insights or reports is there a certain report or Insight that you found like surprisingly beneficial or that you guys now like are attached to it to H we did a lot of customer reports back in did a lot of
customer reports back in the beginning so I can't really say the beginning so I can't really say the beginning so I can't really say any specific one on myself but I've any specific one on myself but I've any specific one on myself but I've been using the dock to do report like on a weekly basis because we have a sales meeting early in
the week and I go meeting early in the week and I go through what lead times are expected and the dock to do shows actual average of how long certain business units are taking over the course of time and it's taking over the course
of time and it's taking over the course of time and it's nice because I'll have sales guys who nice because I'll have sales guys who nice because I'll have sales guys who are like but you can do it faster and I'm like this is how fast we have been I'm like this is how fast we have been I'm like this is how fast we have been doing it in real life so it's been helpful that and the so it's been helpful that and the
so it's been helpful that and the rework events just to summarize where we're going wrong and what the problems we're going wrong and what the problems we're going wrong and what the problems are that's been huge yeah I'm I'm kind are that's been huge yeah I'm I'm kind are that's been huge yeah I'm I'm kind of in the same about learning some
insights this two-day course has insights this two-day course has insights this two-day course has really opened up my eyes as far as a few things that we still need to do that we still need to implement insights and utilizing our reports better is one thing we still need speaking on behalf of Andrew loves insights and know one that he uses religiously is like customer turn so seeing okay one's the customer turn so seeing okay
one's the customer turn so seeing okay one's the last time we Shi parts to this customer call them up say hey what's new just call them up say hey what's new just call them up say hey what's new just check in and then also like the rack throughput so seeing production Trends throughput so seeing production
Trends on a day-to-day basis and Andrew on a day-to-day basis and Andrew on a day-to-day basis and Andrew actually uses those in targeted meetings kind of like Dena has mentioned where production they review those insights and the front office they review these ones and the sales guy he reviews those on so this question is probably more for the steelhead team but in terms of tack the UI on the webbased kind of browser for the iPads can be a challenge you know in terms of you got to manually zoom into places and you know the back buttons are tough and like Is the back buttons
are tough and like Is it feasible to move more parts of it more to like an app Andor just thoughts on cleaning up the UI for the webbased IP or the iPad functionality I believe her in Mobile so actually
steal believe her in Mobile so actually steal out on my phone so if you zoom out on your web browser and your phone or even on a tablet it's much phone or even on a tablet it's much phone or even on a tablet it's much more usable so if you're too zoomed in more usable so if you're too
zoomed in more usable so if you're too zoomed in then things kind of go off the page you can't really see it so if you go into can't really see it so if you go into can't really see it so if you go into the browser setting and zoom out a couple of ticks then and then refresh a couple of ticks then and then
refresh a page it'll auto adjust it's a dynamic page it'll auto adjust it's a dynamic page it'll auto adjust it's a dynamic page and you can that helps a lot with usability but certainly you know the work workboard and other high touch screens that are designed for tablet shipping invoicing work boards things like that like yeah bring it to our attention we'll take them off our attention we'll take them off our attention we'll take them off one by one but specific take them off one by one but
specific to using an app we've been really happy to using an app we've been really happy to using an app we've been really happy with our decision to consolidate all of our effort into the browser based experience and there's certainly a lot experience and there's certainly a lot experience and there's certainly a lot of room to make it more useable within the browser Bas experience for example time sheets if you want to pin into time sheets and you have time sheet mode on iPad it renders a keyboard mode
on iPad it renders a keyboard right on the screen there so you don't right on the screen there so you don't right on the screen there so you don't have to click it and have that iPad thing pop up so there's tricks like that thing pop up so there's tricks like that thing pop up so there's tricks like that we can use to round out those little
corners and Chase those down one by one but by going to an app based experience and it's completely separate experience and it's completely separate experience and it's completely separate stack now it just dilutes our ability to drive a core functionality so we'll Chase those down one by one all we'll Chase those down one by one all we'll Chase those down one by one all right thank you Kurt thank you Cody thank you Frank thank you Dino
